Bison hope not to be spooked by Phantoms

The Sherfield School Basingstoke Bison open their home campaign of 2017, with a visit from the Peterborough Phantoms on Saturday night.

The visitors spooked the Herd on their first visit to Basingstoke this season, winning after a penalty shoot-out, but last time in town, minus their injured starting goalie Janis Auzins they lost 3-1.

Auzins is now back for the Phantoms, who are currently third in the EPL standings, two places ahead of the Bison, which sets up a mouth watering clash to open things up for 2017 in Basingstoke.

The Herd will welcome import forward Joe Rand back for the game, which has a 6.30pm face-off, but British forward Joe Miller is likely still to be missing.

Looking ahead to the clash Bison head coach Doug Sheppard said: "Peterborough are really hard working team backed by some excellent goaltending from Janis Auzins. He keeps them in every game they play, so we will have to be at our best, if we are to get the win we want on home ice to start the year."

Tickets for what is set to be another great game at the Basingstoke Arena are available from the box office on (01256) 355266 or from the Bison website.

On Sunday night, the Bison make what could be their final visit of the season to the Hive to face the Bracknell Bees. The action on Sunday starts at 6pm.
