Weekend Preview - A potential table topping clash aheadThe Sherfield School Basingstoke Bison find themselves with just a single game this weekend as the Milton Keynes Thunder visit Hampshire. A win for the Herd will see them take the top spot in the National Ice Hockey League.
Bison will have Vanya Antonov back in the line up but injury will likely see Joe Baird sit out this weekend while Josh Smith is still away with GB Under 20s.
The Thunder are experienced campaigners in the NIHL and there’s a lot of former MK Lightning players who’ll be lining up in the Thunder uniform including Lewis Christie, Ross Green, Tom Carlon, Grant McPherson along with a hatful of talented players who’ve all had EPL experience.
Bison Head Coach Doug Sheppard looked forward to the weekend; “It’s a one game weekend and we know on home ice we have to play a lot stronger. We need to make this a tougher building for teams to come as it always used to be and that needs to start now.”
“We’re coming off a good weekend where we had scoring spread across three lines. I’m hoping we can continue that productiveness while being stingy in defence.”
Doug Sheppard will be away this weekend for personal reasons as he explains; “My Mum has some health issues right now and I’d like to thank John Neville and the Bison organisation for being so supportive of my taking this brief time off mid-season. It’s important for my Mum and for me and the family that I’m there with her to support her right now.”
“We, as a team, have done a lot of preparation work already for this game and I know we have strong leadership in the team and under the Captain, Aaron Connolly, and senior players I’m certain the guys will perform really well this weekend.”
Bison play on home ice on Saturday against Milton Keynes Thunder at 6.30pm as their only game of the weekend.
The Herd will then look forward to a busy festive period with an M3 derby coming up on Saturday 23rd December against the Bracknell Bees in a league game. There’s Cup action in Hampshire on Wednesday 27th December when Swindon Wildcats visit for a 7.00pm face-off ahead of a league clash with Peterborough Phantoms on Saturday 30th December for our final home game of 2017 at 6.30pm.
