Weekend Preview - Three tough tests coming up

It’s a busy time coming up for the Sherfield School Basingstoke Bison as they start an important run of games.

Doug Sheppard’s men are on home ice on Saturday night for a top of the table clash against the Peterborough Phantoms in the National Ice Hockey League ahead of a Sunday trip to Gillingham Ice Bowl for a league match up with the Invicta Dynamos.

Midweek the focus is back on the Autumn Cup as the second leg of the semi-final takes place on Wednesday at Hull Arena. The Herd will start that game against the Pirates with a one goal lead from last week’s home semi-final.

Influential players Aaron Connolly and Dan Scott both missed last Saturday’s clash with London and hopefully will be back in the line up but their participation could come down to game time decisions.

Bison Head Coach Doug Sheppard gave his thoughts; “All our focus right now is on Peterborough for big game at home. The league leaders are coming into our building and we're going to have to play a good game and look to keep pace with them if we want a chance at winning the league. We’ve played two close games so far between two evenly matched teams. We’re on home ice with our fans making the atmosphere, we know we need to be at our best and we’ll look to come out strong.

He continued; “Once we’ve got Saturday’s huge clash out of the way we can focus on Sunday at Invicta and then a huge clash on Wednesday after a long road trip with a place in the Autumn Cup Final at stake.

Bison face Peterborough Phantoms at the Basingstoke Arena on Saturday at 6.30pm. Sunday’s road clash with Invicta takes place at Gillingham at 5.15. The Autumn Cup semi final takes place at Hull Arena on Wednesday and face-off is 7.30.
