Young ‘D’ Man Joins the Herd

As exclusively revealed in this morning’s Basingstoke Gazette, the Basingstoke Bison have beefed up their blue line by capturing the signature of one of the top young British defencemen, Adam Jones.

22-year-old Adam played in the Elite League last season for the Guildford Flames and Belfast Giants and then finished the year playing for the Telford Tigers in NIHL North One.

Adam pulled on a Flames jersey 12 times and a Belfast one five times and whilst playing for the Shropshire outfit he scored on his last visit to Basingstoke and he also played against the Herd in the national play-off finals in Coventry.

The 6ft 2in defender weighs in at just over 200 lbs, shoots left and returned 21 points from 22 league games last season and 22 minutes in penalties.

Prior to playing in the UK the former Great Britain junior international played in Canada.
His last two years there were in British Columbia where he iced for the Summerland Steam, who play in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.

Bison player/coach Ashley Tait is delighted with his latest addition and said: “He gives us size at the back and moves the puck well. He has experience of playing in the Elite League and it was Belfast coach Adam Keefe who put me onto him”.

Ashley continued, "I spoke to my brother, who played with Adam at Telford last season, and he had only good things to say about him too.”

Adam commented, “I’m very excited to be joining the Bison for the upcoming season, I’ve heard a lot of good things about Ash, and am excited to have him as our coach this year. The Bison have always had a good fan base in recent years, and I can’t wait to get started playing in front of them.”

Jones arrival takes the Bison defence up to two and Coach Tait is busy looking to fill the remaining spots on his roster and has a number of offers out for other players.
