Brooks & McCormick Join the Herd

As exclusively revealed in Thursday’s Gazette, Basingstoke born prospect Sam Brooks has agreed to join the Trane sponsored Basingstoke Bison after his successful stint in a Bison jersey last season.

18 year old, Sam who’s played all his ice hockey out of the Basingstoke rink is another product of the Basingstoke Junior system alongside the likes of Cam Buckle and Oscar Evans.

Sam has regional honours having represented the South West conference at U11, U13, U15 & U17 level at the National Junior Conference tournament.

Coach Tait said, “Sam's shown great potential and I think he can grow into a permanent role with the bison. He's got great speed, awareness and offensive capability. I'm looking forward to working with him”.

On signing for the Herd Sam said, “I really enjoyed my time with Herd last season and can’t wait to get started and continue to develop my skills under Ashley and Tosh”.

Our second signing is 19 year old, Southampton born Rhys McCormick, who will be on a two deal with the Solent Devils, where he will predominantly play. Last season with the Solent Devils he iced in 24 games scoring 11 points and 18 minutes in penalties.

Rhys has played all his hockey at Junior or Senior level in the Basingstoke, Gosport and Guildford programmes with one year spent over the pond where he played in the Greater Metro Hockey League for the Coldwater Falcons.

On capturing Rhys Coach Tait commented, “I'm really pleased we've been able to reach an agreement with Alex Murray and take Rhys on a 2 way contract. I think he has huge potential and hope to use him as much as we're able to do so as I think he'll be an asset to us whenever he's available”.
