Big Weekend of Autumn Cup Action for the Trane Sponsored Basingstoke Bison

Saturday’s game faces off at 6.30pm with doors opening at 5.30pm.

Last weekend the Hull Pirates faced off against the Swindon Wildcats in the Autumn Trophy losing heavily on Saturday 8 – 2 at the Link Centre and winning the return game at Hull Arena 3 – 2.

Hull are one of the top sides in the NIHL North 1 and will prove a stern test for the Bison as they have a very experienced side and are one of the favourites for the Northern League title.

Three to watch for the Pirates:

Jason Hewitt – Forward & Player Coach – started his career in Altrincham playing for the Aces, he moved into the Elite League with Manchester Phoenix, had a short spell with London Raiders and 9 games in a Bison jersey before signing for Sheffield Steelers and having an illustrious career winning the Elite League four times as well as other accolades during a 636 game Elite league palmaris where he scored 226 points. He moved to Hull in the final season of the EPIHL scoring 41 points in 32 games when his season was curtailed due to injury and last term he led the Pirates to runner up in NIHL North 1 scoring 97 points which made Jason the second highest point scorer in the league. Jason also played for the Great Britain national team for 6 seasons from 2008 / 09 to 2013 / 14.

Bobby Chamberlain – Forward – although only 23 years of age Bobby is a very experienced player who has played 102 games in the Elite League with the Hull Stingrays and 126 games in the EPIHL with the Manchester Phoenix and Milton Keynes Lightning. Bobby has represented Great Britain at U18 and U20 levels and he moved back to Hull to play for the Pirates in 2017 / 18 where he scored 44 goals in the 85 points he amassed that season. Bobby is a power forward who likes to crash the night yet maintaining a keen eye for goal.

Tomas Fucik – Netminder – signed from JKH GKS Jastrzebie in Poland. The 6’2”, 24 year old goalie has spent the last 2 seasons with Jastrzebie, who play in the Polish top flight, and has returned a .939 average over 43 appearances. The Czech Republic national played exclusively in his home country within domestic leagues as well as for franchise teams within the MHL and the Austrian EBL up until 2016 when he made the move to the Polish Hockey League. Fucik, is a big presence in the crease and reads the play well, he closes down the angles and gets all of the basics right which enables the team to play an open game in front of him.

Commenting on the weekend ahead Coach Tait said, “Last weekend went very well for us and 3 points out of 4 was a good a return, we’ve been telling the boys in training all week that we have to keep up the effort and intensity for the whole game and were looking forward to the games ahead”.

Sunday’s return encounter at the Hull Arena faces off at 5.30pm
