Weekend Preview: Wildcats Double Header Weekend for the Herd

This weekend is a pivotal point in the Herd’s race to defend the NIHL S1 title as the Trane sponsored Basingstoke Bison go head to head with the Swindon Wildcats.

The teams currently sit in first and second place in NIHL S1 with Swindon Wildcats in first place on 53 points from 34 games and the Herd in second place on 51 points from 33 games.

On Saturday night the Herd will be stampeding to Swindon’s Link Centre for the first game of the weekend with the action starting at 6.15pm.

On Sunday we return to Basingstoke for our final home fixture of the season against the Wildcats. The game faces off at 5.30pm and not 6.30pm as it states on tickets, so please pass the word around to fans.

The teams have played each other 3 times in league competition so far this season with the Wildcats currently edging the series with two wins to the Bison’s one. The Bison won the opening game of the series by 3 goals to 2 in overtime in November and lost 4 – 3 at home in December. In our only game so far this campaign in Swindon the Herd lost 4 – 1. Earlier this month the Herd progressed to the Southern Cup Final with a 9 – 8 aggregate victory over two exciting games of hockey.

Tickets for this game are bound to be popular so we would suggest that fans book seats in advance.

Tickets are available in advance by calling 01256 355266, at the box office for personal callers or online by clicking here and on the door.

Looking ahead to this weekend games Bison player/coach Ashley Tait said: “This weekend is what we as players play the game for, head to head against our closest rivals is something we as a team relish. The team have trained well all week and are prepared for two hard games”.

The Herd are expected to welcome back into the line up influential overseas forward Richard Bordowski who missed last weekend’s games through injury.
