Two More Added to Bison Roster

As exclusively revealed this morning by Graham Merry in the Basingstoke Gazette, Coach Tait is pleased to announce two more names to the Herd’s roster, the re-signing of forward Paul Petts and a new signing to the roster Defenceman Oliver Stone.

Gosport-born Petts is a product of the Basingstoke junior programme, standing at 6’0” tall and weighing 168 lbs and shoots right commented, “Last season we surprised a lot of people with our performances and when I had no hesitation in inking a new contract for the forthcoming season”.

Paul continued, ““Once I spoke to ash in the summer I knew straight away I wanted to be a part of the team this year after a great year last year. Can’t wait to challenge for every trophy this year”.

Swindon born Defenceman Stone last season iced for Mk Thunder in the NIHL where he played 42 games scoring 1 goal and 6 assists and 20 minutes in penalties. He is a product of the Okanagan Ice Hockey Academy based in Swindon and iced for Great Britain at U18 and U20 age groups.

20 year Ollie, shoots left, is 5’10” tall and weighs 159 lbs, has EPIHL and NIHL experience with the Swindon Wildcats, commenting on his signing for the Herd, Ollie said, “As soon as Ashley contacted me about coming to Basingstoke, it was an easy decision to say yes. I saw how well the team did last year under Ash and I can’t to wait to be a part of that next season, the fans are amazing -the loudest in the league. I’m excited to get started!”

Coach Tait was pleased to get two more names on the roster and commented on the signing of Paul, “It was important to make sure we had a group of guys come back and Pettsy was always one of those. I think he took a little while longer than some to find his feet last year, but he gives us depth and can play anywhere in the line-up when needed”.

Ashley continued, “It’s great to see so many of last year’s roster returning for my second season – I think Paul continued to improve and expect him to carry on from where he was at the back end of last season.

On the signing of Stone Ashley said, “After speaking to Oli for the first time he made his intentions clear and that Basingstoke was where he wanted to play. He skates and moves the puck well and I think he has great potential that we haven't seen yet”.

Ashley continued, “We have more signings to announce, summer ice starts this week, we have our season ticket purchase night next Friday (28th) - September cannot come soon enough.”

Paul will wear once again wear the number 19 jersey and Ollie will wear jersey number 6 for the Bison and their home and away jerseys will be available shortly through our ever popular ‘Own and Loan’ scheme.

Fans are reminded that next Friday 28th June is the Trane sponsored Basingstoke Bison’s season ticket sales night prior to close of the early bird offer on Sunday 30th September 2019. Coach Tait is expected to announce more signings for the 2019 / 20 season at the event. The event takes place in the rink bar and we look forward to seeing you all there.
