Two-Way Players Link Up with the HerdAs exclusively announced in Thursday’s Basingstoke Gazette the Trane sponsored Basingstoke Bison are pleased to announce that three Two-Way- Players have signed for the Herd for the 2019 / 20 season.
Two-Way-Players are players who will play for the Herd when the players do not have games with their main senior team.
The first of the 3 players announced is 19 year-0ld forward, Sean Norris who this season will ice for the Slough Jets NIHL 2 team, many Bison fans will remember Norris for his stand out performance in the NIHL 2 National final in Coventry where he was instrumental in the Jets victory. Norris scored 79 points in 24 games last term for the Jets (35 goals & 44 assists with 62 minutes in penalties), he also had the honour of making the NIHL 2 South Second All-Star team.
Norris also iced as a Two-Way-Player with the Milton Keynes Thunder last season playing in 19 games for the Thunder scoring 11 points (6 goals & 5 assists) and 6 minutes in penalties.
Sean on agreeing a Two-Way-Deal with the Bison said, “I am looking forward to joining the Bison for the forthcoming season. There all a great group of guys that want to play and more importantly play to win”.
The second player to ink a Two-Way-Deal with Herd is another Slough Jet 18 year-old Sam Talbot, Sam iced for the U18 Great Britain international team last year and scored 58 points in 24 games for the Jets (32 goals and 26 assists and 54 minutes in penalties).
He too also iced on a Two-Way-Deal with the MK Thunder where he scored 10 points in 18 games (5 goals & 5 assists with 33 minutes in penalties) and also captained the Jets U18 team.
Sam on linking up with the Herd commented, “I am really excited to be part of the Bison and get started this year. I am looking forward to playing at a higher level and can’t wait to start a new challenge”.
Our third Two-Way-player is the re-signing of young British forward Rhys McCormick who played last season on a Two-Way-deal between the Herd and Solent Devils, this season Rhys has signed for Streatham and Coaches Tait and Carr have agreed for Rhys to ice for the Herd and continue his ice hockey development.
McCormick last season iced 26 times for the Devils scoring 12 points (4 goals & 8 assists with 26 minutes and penalties) and whilst wearing a Bison jersey he iced in 6 games.
Rhys on returning to the Herd said, “I’m excited and honoured to be back in Basingstoke, I like the direction the organisation is heading and I feel it’s a great place for me to continue my development”
On signing the three up coming players Coach Tait commented, “I felt it was important to have some players on Two-Way contracts who If needed can step in and contribute in the right manner”.
“Sean Norris actually skated with us last year before ending up on a Two-Way in Milton Keynes and has always been on my radar since then”.
“Rhys was with us on a Two-way last year, so we know him well. He has a great attitude, work ethic and I know he'll be excited to be with us again”.
“Sam was recommended by a couple of people and is a talented player who is sees the game well”.
Coach Tait concluded, “I'm looking forward to working with all 3 guys over the season as I think they have a lot to offer and we can help them all develop both on and off the ice and would like to thank the Owners and Coaches of both Slough & Streatham for allowing these 3 young players the opportunity to join us this season”.
Rhys will wear once again wear the number 92 jersey, whilst new recruits Sam and Sean will wear the numbers 98 and 69 in their first season with the Bison. Their jerseys (Light, Dark & Home warm up) are now available to ‘Own and Loan’ through our ever popular Own and Loan scheme at a special “Two-Way player” price of £100.00 each.
