Redmond Returns for Third Year Behind the BenchThe Trane sponsored Basingstoke Bison are pleased to confirm that Assistant Coach Tony “Tosh” Redmond will be back behind the Herd’s bench for a third season.
“Hot on the heels of Tuesday’s announcement of Coach Tait’s extension, keeping our coaching duo together was paramount for the growth and continuity of the club”, commented Bison’s John Neville.
John continued, we are also pleased to confirm that Equipment Manager Gary Mitchell, Medic Glenn Wells and Sport Therapist Phil Barratt will also be continuing in their roles for the forthcoming campaign.
Tony Redmond commonly known as Mr Basingstoke is one of only 3 players whose jerseys have been retired by the organisation, arrived as a wee lad in Hampshire during the summer of 1992 and has made Basingstoke his home. Tosh played 11 seasons for the Herd as well as icing for other local teams Bracknell, Guildford and Slough prior to retiring from playing at the end of the 2013 / 14 season.
In the summer of 2018 Coach Tait persuaded Tosh to return to the Herd where he has been ever present since, commenting on Tosh’s return Coach Tait said,
“I think it was essential that Tosh returned as my assistant, we have known each other since we were kids and having him behind the bench enables me to concentrate on playing”.
“We are both on the same wavelength and I know I can trust the decisions he makes during games and practice.
On being behind the bench again for the new campaign Tony commented,
“I’d like to thank Ash & John for the belief and trust they have shown in me as we continue to build a great environment to play and watch hockey in”.
“I’d also like to thank my family for once again giving me the support to continue in my role and finally to the fans. I hope everyone is well and staying safe, being part of this great club is an absolute honour to me and your support week in week out is second to none you are the extra player with the atmosphere you create and its definitely appreciated by the players, management and myself thank you”.
With the announcement that remainder of the off ice team are also back for a third year Coach Tait commented,
“The work our backroom team do to prepare the players and I for each and every game which our fans don’t see is second to none and I thank Gary, Glenn & Phil for their commitment to the club and look forward to working with them all again next season”.
