The Basingstoke Bison are delighted to announce he signing of Viktor Kubenko for their forthcoming English Premier League campaign.
The 33-year-old Slovakian is sure to be a big hit in his first season in Britain and standing at 6ft 3in will add even more beef to the Bison forward line.
He joins the Herd after two seasons in Poland playing for Podhale Nowy Targ and Naprzod Janow, where he scored 40 times and collected 78 points in 88 games.
Before that he played many years in the top tier of the Slovakian League, just missing out on the play-off title in 2005/06 with HK SKP Poprad.
As well as plying his trade in his native land Kubenko also had a spell in the Swedish first division for Nybro IF and in the East Coast Hockey League in America for the New Orleans Brass.
Bison player/coach Steve Moria is delighted with his latest signing and said: “He is good skater and has good hands for a big player. He can physical and has a great shot and I am sure he will do well in this league.”
His arrival meant Moria had to make his toughest decision of the summer not to offer Joe Ciccarello the third import forward slot.
The Bison boss said: "It was a tough and difficult decision to make as he is one of the best linemates I have ever played with.
"He is a great forward, who has been a top points scorer in the past couple of seasons in the EPL and the younger players were able to look up to his experiences to help develop their own games.
"He will be missed by everyone who has played with him and I wish him all the best for the future."
Bison fans have the chance to own Kubenko’s match-worn jerseys for the season as part of the Own and Loan scheme, which proved to be a great success last season.
Each player's home and away jersey will be available at £150 for the home shirt and £120 for the away.
All owners and loaners will have their name printed on the back of the player's jersey, as well as having the opportunity of getting a photograph with their respective player at the end of the season.
