The Basingstoke Bison are thrilled to welcome as their 2nd import for the 2021/22 season, Czech-born Filip Martinec, as exclusively revealed in this mornings Basingstoke Gazette
28 year old Martinec who is 6’ 1” tall, weighs 82 kg and shoots left handed, joins the Herd from Montpellier in France, where in the 2019/20 season he made a total of 27 appearances, scoring 13 goals and 14 assists whilst accruing 70 minutes in penalties.
At the start of his hockey career Filip predominately played in the USA, where he iced for Palm Beach Hawks, Wichita Jr Thunder and the Long Beach Bombers between 2011 & 2014.
Between 2014 & 2017 he spent a season in Romania and two in the Netherlands, before moving onto playing in France where from 2017 to 2019 playing for Morzine-Avoriaz, he totalled 37 appearances, scoring 54 goals plus 47 assists and managed 112 penalty minutes.
Filip on signing for the Bison had this to say about coming to England,
“I’m really excited to finally be able to make my debut in a Bison jersey, I was really looking to playing there last season until COVID, Michal (Klejna) has told me all about the noisy and loud fans there and I’m look forward to meeting you all soon”.
Ash Tait commented,
“Filip was signed to be in our roster for last season until we didn’t ice, so I am rally excited to finally get to play with Filip play.”
Coach Tait continued,
“Filip came highly recommended to me and his best reference came from Klej (a player we all know so well here in Basingstoke) and we’re looking forward to meeting him in September”.
