The Basingstoke Bison are extremely pleased to announce talented British forward George ‘Gordon’ Norcliffe is returning to the Herd for the forthcoming 2021/22 season.

27 year old Guildford-born Norcliffe, who weights 88kg, measures 6’ 2” in height and is a right handed shot, has made a total of 74 appearances in a Bison jersey since joining at the start of 2018/19 season. In that time he has found the net on 30 occasions, made 21 assists and served 73 minutes of penalties.

George spent the early days of his ice hockey career appearing for the Guildford Firestars and the Guildford Phoenix, before making his NIHL 1 debut in the colours of the Solent & Gosport Devils during the 2012/13 season, icing in 31 games and scoring 18 points (10+8). The following season his scoring increased to 25 points (13+12) in 32 appearances.

As of 2014, Solent & Gosport Devils became the Solent Devils and over the next 2 seasons Norcliffe made a further 77 appearances, with the points contributions continuing to increase. A total of 45 goals and 39 assists proved he had the game to be a success at this level.

A brief 4 game stint with the Wightlink Raiders preceded a move to Streatham IHC for the 2016/17 campaign, where in 23 appearances he scored 22 points (15+7) and picked up 10 minutes of penalties.

The 2017/18 season saw George sign for the Bracknell Bees, despite making 42 appearances, things didn’t quite click on the scoring front with only 15 points (8+7) forthcoming.

The following season Ashley Tait persuaded George to make a short trip down the M3 to join the Bison, a move which has worked well for the club and player.

George had this to say regarding his re-signing,

“I’m really excited to back we came so close to picking up Silverware in our  last playing season and we’ll be working hard to win one next season”.

George continued,

I’ve really enjoyed my time with the Bison and it really was the only place I wanted to play after such a long time off the ice due the pandemic.

I can’t wait to once again get back out on the ice playing in front of our noisy and passionate fans”.

Coach Tait commenting on George continuing his stay with the Herd said,

“I think norcs is starting to fulfill the potential we saw from day one and is becoming a great power forward.  His overall game has improved and his drive to continue that is evident. His speed is one of his best assets and when he wants to take the puck to the net he’s tough to stop”.
